Husband charged with first-degree murder in death of wife appears for pre-trial conference

PARIS, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - UPDATE 12-17-2020: Robert Degnan appeared for a pre-trial conference in Bear Lake County Thursday. 

Judge Mitchell Brown scheduled a jury trial for May 17, 2021. 

A pre-trail conference was set for April 15.


UPDATE 9-17-2020 On September 14, the court ordered Robert Dengran to undergo a competency evaluation. His preliminary hearing, originally set September 16, was continued.  No new court date was set.


5:30 p.m. The Bear Lake County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of those involved in the incident Sunday.

Sheriff Bart Heslington said Marjorie Oberheim Degnan was found dead from a single gunshot wound.

As a result of the investigation, her husband Robert Dwight Degnan was arrested and charged with first degree murder.

The investigation is continuing.


ORIGINAL: One person is dead and another arrested after a firearm-related incident in Bear Lake County.

Bear Lake County Sheriff Bart Heslington said deputies were called on Sept. 6. The victim was found dead at the scene.

He said a suspect has been taken into custody. Neither the suspect nor victim was not identified.

Heslington said there are no other suspects involved and the investigation is continuing.
