Details released as police investigate incident in Lemhi County that resulted in man’s death

LEMHI COUNTY, Idaho (KIFI) - UPDATE 10/22/21: The Lemhi County Sheriff's Office reports an altercation occurred on Panther Creek Road on Oct. 19.

The incident took place above the confluence of Porphyry Creek and Panther Creek in Lemhi County.

The altercation involved two adult males and one adult female.

During the course of the altercation, multiple firearms were discharged.

Preliminary investigation indicates 32-year-old Jon Ryan Kesterson of Idaho Falls was struck one time and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

An autopsy was for Friday, Oct. 22.

The other adult male involved in the altercation, 26-year-old Tel William Pethtel of Burley, is currently in custody for charges unrelated to the incident.

The Lemhi County Sheriff's Office and Idaho State Police are continuing to investigate.


ORIGINAL 10/20/21: The Lemhi County Sheriff's Office reports an incident occurred Tuesday in a remote part of Lemhi County which resulted in the death of an adult male.

The sheriff's office and Idaho State Police are investigating the incident, and the investigation in ongoing.

Officials say parties involved are cooperating with law enforcement.

Sheriff Steve Penner said there is no threat to the public.
