Former Bingham County Sheriff Craig Rowland enters plea deal

BLACKFOOT, Idaho (KIFI) - Former Bingham County Sheriff Craig Rowland will not be going to trial.

Online court records show Rowland entered  a plea deal.

He pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault.

As part of the deal, the felony charge of aggravated battery and the misdemeanor charge of use of a deadly weapon will be dropped.

The charges are related to an incident that happened last November outside Rowland's home.

Prosecutors say he threatened a church youth group with a gun after they left a thankful turkey note on his door and ran away.

Rowland is set to be sentenced October 25.

Rowland resigned as sheriff August 1.
