New details released in Roberts shooting

ROBERTS, Idaho (KIFI) - UPDATE 8/8/23: Police say the suspects in the shooting that occurred in Roberts on Sunday night have been charged and arraigned in court.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reports 31-year-old Jose Gonzalez of Roberts has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and 48-year-old Gerardo Mendoza of Roberts is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The name of the female involved will not be released at this time, and she has not been charged with a crime.

No further details will be released as the investigation is ongoing.


ORIGINAL: Officials are investigating a shooting in Roberts Sunday night.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Jefferson County 911 received a report of shots fired in the area of 650 N and 2858 E in Roberts.

Upon investigation, Jefferson County deputies found a verbal altercation occurred and both parties had brandished firearms.

According to police, a male suspect fired his weapon injuring a 38-year-old female.

The female was treated for two gunshot wounds and released. No other injuries were reported.

The female, a 48-year-old male and 31-year-old were all taken into custody.

Roberts and Lewisville Fire, Menan and Rigby Quick Response and Idaho Falls Ambulance responded.

The investigation is ongoing, and names will not be released at this time.
