Man sentenced to 40 years in prison for lewd conduct with a child, inducing minor into prostitution
POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) – A 36-year-old Arizona man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for lewd conduct with a minor and inducing a minor into prostitution, the Bannock County Prosecutor’s Office announced Thursday.
On Jun. 12, Daniel Andrade pleaded guilty to three counts of lewd conduct with a minor and one count of inducing a minor into prostitution. Sixth District Judge Rick Carnaroli sentenced Andrade on Oct. 18 to a unified sentence of 40 years in prison with the eligibility for parole after 15 years.
Upon release from prison, Andrade will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
An investigation into Andrade began in June 2022 after officers were informed by a male teenager that three of his female friends, who were 14 years old at the time, were in a hotel with an adult man and that one of the friends messaged him that she’d been raped. After locating the three female juveniles, officers identified Andrade through his Snapchat profile, which he had used to communicate with one of the girls. Through interviews and saved Snapchat messages, investigators learned that Andrade had paid varying amounts of money to one of the girls to have sex with him on two different occasions. During the investigation, officers learned of another 15- year-old Pocatello girl whom Andrade had also paid for sex.
“This case highlights our office’s commitment to protecting our children from abuse,” Bannock County Prosecutor Steven Herzog said. “Andrade’s sentence should serve as a warning to others who would consider victimizing innocent children that you will be caught, and when you are, we will prosecute you to the fullest extent.”
Andrade’s defense asked the judge for a 12-year sentence with two years mandatory because of the personal progress the defendant made while awaiting trial in jail. Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Erin Tognetti argued the long-term damage to the victims and Andrade’s insistence that the children looked older than they were warranted a 40-year sentence, with the first 20 being mandatory. Judge Carnaroli agreed to a 40-year sentence with 15 years mandatory, saying the victims’ lasting trauma and the community risk of Andrade being free justified a lengthy prison sentence.
Herzog credits the brave young boy for coming forward, the girls for their courage and honesty throughout this process, the Pocatello Police Department for their dedicated investigative efforts, and Tognetti for her commitment to ensuring justice is served for the victims.
