Small fire in Rigby Middle School teachers’ lounge

RIGBY, Idaho (KIFI) - The Jefferson School District reports Rigby Middle School had a small fire in the teachers' lounge Tuesday afternoon.

The Central Fire District reports the fire happened around 2:45 p.m. about 40 minutes before school was about to end. 

The schools vice principal then leaped into action grabbing a fire extinguisher to put out the flames. 

According to the district, students and staff were evacuated, and the fire was quickly extinguished.

The fire department determined a light fixture caused the fire.

Firefighters had the scene cleared by 4 p.m.

Students were able to reenter the school once the fire department gave the all clear.

There were no injuries, and everyone is safe.
