Cities prepare for winter snow
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - As winter approaches, the City of Idaho Falls is double checking themselves to make sure their snow operations are ready to go.
Snowfall is expected in Idaho Falls for the first time this winter on Thursday morning. While most weather predictions have merely a dusting of snow predicted, the city wants to make sure they are prepared for later winter storms down the road. This includes snow plows, salt, and workers themselves.
When two or more inches of snow hit the roadways, a "snow event" is declared. This means snow plows will be coming out to remove snow off the roadways.
The city also needs us to make sure of two things during a snow event. The first is for us to remove our vehicles from the side of the road. The snow plows need enough space to travel through the narrower neighborhood roads. The second is for home owners to shovel off the sidewalks for pedestrians to use.

The City of Ammon is reminding people to not park their vehicles on the road in a snow event. Snow events are declared by the city usually right before snow starts to accumulate. They are declared via text alerts and social media. These snow events will occur when two or more inches of snow is predicted to fall.
