Sister Act brings laughter, love and heavenly music to the stage

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - A local theater production is bringing laughter, love and heavenly music to the stage in Idaho Falls.

Linda Larsen had the chance to see Sister Act at Center Stage Theater.

It is a feel good musical comedy that has audiences jumping to their feet and grooving to the beat.

"There's something about the show that I've never experienced in other shows where there's just like pure joy," Mother Superior Karin Dance said. "The whole time people watch the show and by the end, people are on their feet."

Sister Act is the story of a disco diva hiding in a convent after she witnesses a murder. She helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she rediscovers her own.

The story is filled with great music fun dancing and a truly moving story about the power of sisterhood, love and redemption, a story that the cast hopes will spill over into real life.

"It's encouraging us all to come together to learn this lesson that it doesn't matter where you come from what you look like what church you go to we are one people we are human and that's the most important part of the story," Keishianna Peterson said.

Peterson, who plays the lead character Deloris, is the real life voice instructor of Payton who plays the role of her protégée Sister Mary Roberts, and in both the show and life, her mentorship has helped Payton truly find her voice.

Find the courage to tell her so she can have time. I'm grateful to be a part of the journey but I'm grateful to be part of the journey loving her and supporting her and that no matter where she goes in her life that I will get to say like' that's my baby.'"

"I related so much to her story and the connection Mary Roberts has with Deloris, I really felt the connection I have with Keishianna, and it was just a beautiful thing to be able to portray that on stage and to share that story with people," she said.

So if you're looking for a reason to rejoice, this show will take you to heaven.

There are four shows left Thursday, Friday Saturday and Monday.
