UPDATE 3:10 p.m. The Idaho Falls Police Department reports two people have been arrested after one person died and multiple people were shot in an overnight altercation in Idaho Falls.

At approximately 1:00 a.m. Monday, Idaho Falls Police Officers and Bonneville County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of gunshots in the area of Compass Academy, located at 955 Garfield Street in Idaho Falls. A deputy in the area heard the gunshots, and a number of residents in the area heard them as well and reported the information to dispatch.

When officers arrived at Compass Academy, three victims were found in the Northwest parking lot. Two victims had sustained gunshot wounds and a third had sustained traumatic injuries due to being run over by a vehicle.

Law enforcement officers immediately rendered emergency medical aid and called for assistance from the Idaho Falls Fire EMS. Ambulances responded, took over emergency medical care and transported all three victims to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC). A fourth injured person involved in the situation was located at EIRMC and had been taken there by a private vehicle.

Three of the four people injured in this incident were hospitalized. One person was declared deceased early Monday morning.

Through investigation, Idaho Falls Police Officers have determined a large group of people were involved in an argument in the parking lot of Compass Academy. That argument turned physical, and two people, armed with handguns, fired during the incident causing injuries to others. All the people involved, except the three victims found when officers arrived, fled from the scene. At least one person was run over by a vehicle while the vehicles were leaving the parking lot.

At this point in the investigation, Idaho Falls police investigators have identified all the individuals involved in the incident. Two people have been arrested.

19-year-old Gabriel Perkins and 18-year-old Taylor Aughenbaugh

19-year-old Gabriel Perkins was taken into custody early Monday morning and arrested for aggravated battery and felony leaving the scene of an injury accident.

18-year-old Taylor Aughenbaugh was located and taken into custody at approximately 9:20 a.m., and has been arrested for two counts of aggravated battery.

Police say the exact dynamics of this incident remain under investigation, and additional charges are expected to be filed as the investigation progresses.

"The Idaho Falls Police Department would like to thank members of the public for their assistance throughout this investigation. IFPD is aware of the Snapchat video circulating that captured part of the incident, and thanks those who shared the video with law enforcement."

If anyone has additional information that they think may be relevant to the investigation, contact IFPD by calling dispatch at 208-529-1200.
