I-15 and US-20 interchange update

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - We are still waiting for an update on the fatal crash that claimed six lives Saturday morning. In the meantime, Local News 8 got an update on the 1-15 and US-20 interchange, which is due for a major overhaul. The changes will help with congestion and make the area safer to travel.

The project is still in its environmental process phase, which the Idaho Transportation Department hopes will be completed by spring 2025. A lot of boxes need to be checked to finish this step because every road across the country needs to be designed to be compliant with the National Environment Protection Act.

“So those environmental concerns...we look at air quality, water quality, noise, visual concerns, demographic concerns and many more,” ITD PIO Sky Buffat said.

The project is still a few years way from being started, but Buffat says once it finally does, it will be the biggest project in the state.

ITD is still taking public comment on the interstate project. The next public meeting should be in the fall.
