BOISE, Idaho (KIFI) - The United States Courts for the District of Idaho announced the passing of Chief United States Bankruptcy Judge Joseph M. Meier on Wednesday.

Due to Judge Meier’s passing and out of respect for his family and staff, the Boise, Pocatello and Coeur d’Alene courts will be closed on Friday, Nov. 24, 2023.

Officials said the Judge Meier was a man of tremendous kindness and intelligence, and he is already sorely missed.

He was appointed to the bench in 2018 and became the Chief Bankruptcy Judge in 2019.

Prior to his appointment, he practiced in the areas of bankruptcy, commercial, real property, and business law.

Information regarding any memorial services will be published on the Courts’ website when available.
