Winter is the most important time to wash your car

CHUBBUCK, Idaho (KIFI) - Some people think they should not get their cars washed during the winter. It turns out, wintertime is actually the most important time to wash your car.

“Especially now where the roads are maintained with the brine solution,” Pony Express car wash partner Kyle Benson said. “That brine’s really corrosive on different components of your car, sensors and some of that sensitive material.”

You know when your car gets a bunch of slush packed underneath? It’s usually filled with the corrosive brine Benson talked about. He recommends visiting a car wash that has an under body blast to help remove the brine from the vehicle.

Some people might worry their car will freeze after getting it washed. Benson says cars should not freeze as long as you go to a car wash that has a strong drying process.

“If you drive for…five [or] 10 minutes after the car wash, then that air movement should also help further dry the car up,” he said.

So how often should people get their car washed this time of year?

“About two and a half times per month should maintain your car in a very healthy condition year round,” Benson said.

Of course, your car will get brine on it again after you get your car washed, but getting it washed regularly maintains the exterior.
