2 released from hospital, 1 still hospitalized after ISP car hit on I-15

ARIMO, Idaho (KIFI) - UPDATE 6/10/21: The crash that injured three people Wednesday on Interstate 15, including an Idaho State Police Trooper, remains under investigation.

Both individuals who were in the patrol car, the trooper and a passenger, were treated and released Wednesday night from the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello.

The driver of the Honda, a 25-year-old man from California was transported to the Portneuf Medical Center via air ambulance and remains hospitalized.

Idaho State Police appreciate the Bannock County Sheriff's Office for being the lead investigating agency into this incident. Assisting on scene were also members of Bannock County Search and Rescue, Downey EMS personnel, and Arimo Fire Department personnel.

Due to the ongoing investigation, no further information is available for release at this time.


ORIGINAL: An Idaho State Police car was hit by a passing car Wednesday evening. Three people were hurt in the accident, including the trooper.

The crash happened on the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 near Arimo at approximately 5:16 p.m.

The trooper was helping with a car fire on the side of the road. The driver of that car was in the passenger seat of the patrol car, along with the trooper when his car was hit from behind.

A police report said the trooper was slowly moving forward in the closed right lane to protect firefighters when it was hit. Traffic cones were in the road, along with the officer's emergency lights flashing and a florescent pink sign attached to the back of the patrol car reading 'Slow Down."

ISP says the investigation is ongoing.

  1. Just a little prejudiced against your Mormon brothers in UT? But rest assured, the driver could be a member of the cult from CA. After all, CA has more cultists than here in Idaho.

    1. Seriously, J? I went to College in Utah. Even then (many, MANY years ago!) the whole ‘Mormon brothers’ thing was WAY over-done! As far as ‘cults’ go, simply defining a group of people with similar feelings/beliefs as a cult seems fairly wide-ranging, especially to an old agnostic such as myself. 😉
      Since THIS particular blind ***hole WAS from California, and given that law-enforcement vehicles responding for whatever reasons are hardly DISCREET, I would assume that either
      (1) The driver was texting
      (2) The diver was on drugs
      (3) The driver was texting trying obtain MORE drugs
      That’s what MY ‘prejudice’ sounds like.
