Dump truck driver in deadly Teton Pass crash pleads not guilty

JACKSON, Wyo. (KIFI) – The dump truck driver charged in the fatal Teton Pass crash had pleaded not guilty to two counts of homicide by vehicle.

22-year-old Laiton George McMinn of Ririe was driving a dump truck and crashed. When questioned by police, he claimed his "brakes failed," accord Two people died, and five were injured as a result.

According to court documents, a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper determined the crash was caused by “driver error” and was not the result of any mechanical issues.

McMinn is scheduled to appear for a bond hearing on Oct. 8, 2026.

His pretrial conference is scheduled for Jan. 4, 2027, followed by a jury trial set for Jan. 28, 2027.

Homicide by vehicle is a high misdemeanor in Wyoming, punishable by up to one year in jail, a two-thousand-dollar fine, or both.
