Why a 21-year-old has been arrested in document leak probe

U.S. authorities have arrested a 21-year-old information technology specialist in connection with the disclosure of highly classified military documents about the Ukraine war and other top national security issues. The suspect is an airman in the Massachusetts Air National Guard named Jack Teixeira. The leak is believed to have started on a social media site called Discord, where Teixeira posted for years. Some of the leaked documents show real-time details of Ukraine’s and Russia’s battlefield positions. The Justice Department says Teixeira will be charged with removing or transmitting classified national defense information, a crime under the Espionage Act.
