KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) — Officials say a massive explosion outside Pakistan’s Karachi Airport has killed two workers from China and injured several others. Police and the provincial government said a tanker exploded Sunday night. The Chinese Embassy said a convoy carrying Chinese power company workers had been attacked and there were Chinese and Pakistani casualties. The provincial home minister told TV station Geo that the blast targeted foreigners. Thousands of Chinese workers are in Pakistan, most of them involved in Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative that has built infrastructure and trade routes throughout south and central Asia connecting with the Chinese capital. The Chinese statement called the explosion a “terrorist attack” and said China is working with Pakistan to handle the aftermath.
