Highland students return to in-person classes at Century High School

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) - After the devastating fire that destroyed part of Highland High School less than two weeks ago, the student body was able to return to the class room on Tuesday.

Students arrived at Century High School on Tuesday morning with welcomes and cheers from students and faculty from the school.

Highland will be using Century's facility on Tuesday and Thursday for in-person instruction and will have remote learning on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to finish out the school year.

Spirits were high for the Highland students who were eager to see their fellow classmates and friends in a face-to-face setting.

They were also really appreciative of the welcoming they received from the people that they now share the building with.

"It's so meaningful and I love how they're out there supporting us," said Highland junior Brylee Scherer. "I feel like if any of the schools had an experience like this, we would do the same for them. It's nice of them to do this."

"I was super nervous going into it, but when I walked in and the Century Student Government and Century students were here with music and they were welcoming us with open arms, clapping us in, and then I saw all my fellow classmates from Highland here, it just felt so great," said Highland senior Ammon Tingey. "Century made the transition so smooth and I just want to say thank you to them for that."

Highland students will also have access to in-person support on a voluntary basis at the district’s Portneuf Valley Technical Education and Career Campus on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
