Lead awareness in Pocatello

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) - It's Lead Awareness Week in the City of Pocatello.

The declaration was made at last week's City Council meeting.

There's several reasons the city wants to raise awareness about lead, including the age of homes in the city. Roughly 70% of homes were built before 1978, when lead-based paints were banned for residential use.

City Grants Manager Christine Howe elaborated on some of the services available through Pocatello's Lead Safe and Healthy Homes Program.

"If you suspect your home may have a lead paint, please reach out to our office and we can see if you qualify for the grant program. We're also this year certified as an EPA training facility so we can offer you renovation, repair and painting training to local contractors for free."

More information about the program is available here.
