Veterans Day Parade taking place Saturday in Pocatello

POCATELLO, IDAHO (KIFI) - Veterans Day is being celebrated a week early in the Gate City.

The second annual Pocatello Veterans Day Parade is being held on Saturday.

The parade route will begin at 11 a.m. on South 1st St. and will then go east on East Center St. to 15th St.

The parade will then turn right on East Oak St. and continue south, ending in the east-side parking lot of Reed Gym.

Changes to this year's event included eliminating the float entry fee, streamlining the parade lineup process, taking parade marshal nominations, and adding a Veterans Day-themed youth art contest.

"Bannock County, Pocatello and Chubbuck is full of veterans," said parade committee member Marshall Riggall. "It's a community full of compassion that want to show their patriotism. Those will line the streets at 11:00 a.m. to show respect to all those that have served."

Two A-10s out of Boise will be doing a flyover during the event.

The parade is being held a week early, because the National Guard and Reserve personnel are doing their training, which will allow more active duty and non-active military to participate this weekend.
