World premiere of new patriotic song

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) - Friday is the world premier of the music video I Love America.

It hits close to home not only because of the patriotic theme of the song, but because both the composer and the artist are from right here in southeast idaho.

Linda Larsen had the chance to sit down with Jennifer Lynn and Tom Sutton about this heartfelt message and it’s importance right now.

Sutton wrote this song more than 30 years ago. He says as he saw the continued division happening in our country, he felt like now was the time to produce it.

"Somehow we need a spark of positivity, a spark of patriotism and a spark of unity," Sutton said. "And so teaming up with Jennifer, I'm very grateful for Jennifer, I think we've been able to do something that we'll create something that will bring a positive influence, a smile and hopefully unity."

So Sutton enlisted the help of Jennifer Lynn, a singer songwriter and mom from Inkom.

"Raising a family right now, I know I look at our country and it's scary to see what's going on. When Tom had come to me we were reading through the lyrics and I thought, 'I love this this is exactly what we need to be getting out there,'" she said.

So with a few changes in the original lyrics and some musical updates, production began.

Originally plans were made to release the song after the first of the year, but some local veterans heard the music and convinced them to move the timeline up so the song could debut as part of the Veterans Day celebration in Pocatello.

The video shoot had to be fast tracked to meet that deadline, but the end result is beautiful.

"I hope that no matter where anyone is big city or small city or wherever it is that they get to feel that," Lynn said.

They both hope their song will be a reminder of just how blessed we are to live here.

"Because all of us have the same basic needs, right?" Lynns said. "And so if all of us are coming together with the same idea of hope and faith love recreating them with unity, that's what our country created. That's what the founders of our country created so that we can have that freedom.

"Hopefully we can make a difference and bring unity and not division that we can bring patriotism is cynicism, and then we can bring gratitude and not judgment in what we do," Sutton said.

The song makes its world premiere Friday. You can find the entire video HERE.

But if you would like to see the performance live, you have a special chance to do that at the  Veterans Day Parade in Pocatello. The parade starts at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Jennifer will perform at Caldwell park both before and after the parade.
