3 things to know this morning – June 26, 2023
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - Here's what you should know to start your Monday.
1. The former Soda Springs High School Girls Basketball coach was sentenced on rape charges after a guilty plea agreement. Wade Schvaneveldt was sentenced to 18 years in prison, 8 of them fixed and 10 indeterminate. The victim was one of his players.
2. A lawyer for suspect Bryan Kohberger filed a court document saying there is no connection between Kohberger and the 4 University of Idaho victims. The defense argued investigators found DNA evidence of 2 other men at the house where the victims died last November. The judge has denied a requests to lift the gag order but will allow cameras in the courtroom on a case-by-case basis. Kohberger is due back in court tomorrow for another hearing.
3. The Gilmore townsite in Lemhi County is tracing high levels of lead contamination in the surface soil. This week, the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality and DHW are holding public open houses in Leadore and Idaho Falls. They are working on short-term and long-term solutions.
