Local businesses worry about construction

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - Two major intersections within the City of Idaho Falls are under construction. One of those areas of construction has closed down Broadway Street between Shoup Ave and N Eastern Ave. While the road may be closed, businesses that reside there still remain open.

One business in particular is concerned a lot about the situation is the Museum of Idaho. The street closure has isolated them from downtown. Patrons now have to take a detour to get to the museum across the railroad tracks. They are worried that this detour will take away some of their customers.

Visitors are everything for the Museum of Idaho. They are a nonprofit that runs exclusively on admission funds. The timing of the construction also falls right on the peak of the tourist season where the museum make the most of their money.

The museum held a staff meeting earlier this week where they discussed solutions to combat the issue. The biggest one they could create is directions on how to get to their building. They should be posted to their website soon.

We did talk to other businesses too around these intersections. While they haven't noticed too much of a change in the past week, this project is expected to last for the next two months up until the middle of September.
