3 things to know this morning – August 2, 2023

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - Here's what you should know to start your Wednesday.

1. The Hayden Fire is affecting air quality in areas near Leadore as it burns 21,977 acres in the Salmon-Challis National Forest. An air quality alert is in effect for Lemhi County, since the air is very unhealthy in Hayden Creek, unhealthy in Lemhi, and moderate in Leadore.  Because of the smoke in those areas, people are encouraged to reduce their activity outdoors.

2. The Bannock County Commissioners have wrapped up all of their discussions for the 2023-2024 fiscal year budget. In the proposed budget,  they say the tax ask is reduced by about 25 dollars per 100,000 dollars of taxable value from last year.

3. The Madison County Transfer Station has delayed its reopening by another two weeks since repairs are taking longer than expected. It is now scheduled to open August 14th. In the meantime, Madison County customers can use the Fremont County Transfer Station for household waste.
