CUSTER COUNTY, Idaho (KIFI) — Several people are safe following two separate rescue operations in Custer County on Friday, Oct. 9.

The first incident began when Custer County Sheriff's Office coordinated with Stanley Search and Rescue (SAR) to assist an injured hiker stranded on Elephant’s Perch, a popular climbing area near Redfish Lake.

At the base, a boat provided by Redfish Lake Lodge ferried the crew and the patient across the lake. From there, Air St. Luke’s took over and transported the hiker to a regional hospital for treatment.

SAR teams, along with Sawtooth Mountain Guides, carried the hiker down the mountain, where they met a boat provided by Redfish Lake Lodge to shuttle the injured hiker and crew across the lake. The patient was then taken by Air St. Lukes to a local hospital.

Later that day, a second call came in, this time near Goat Lake. SAR partnered with the Idaho National Guard to hoist two stranded individuals out of the Alpine area by helicopter. The Guard crew flew them to the Stanley Airport, where Stanley Ambulance evaluated both individuals on scene.
