Ski resorts start off season on slow note

JACKSON, Wyo. (KIFI) - Winter on the Tetons is here, yet ski resorts are starting off on a slow note.

Last year, every ski resort opened up by the end of November.

Today, Jackson Hole, Grand Targhee and Sun Valley are the only ones open.

Even then, most of these resorts only have limited terrain that is open.

At Jackson Hole, only 19 ski trails out of 131 are open today.

They say don't let that stop you. They have some exciting new things coming this season.

This saturday, Jackson Hole is attempting to break the world record for the most amount of skiers wearing jeans on the mountain.

They are also looking forward to bringing back a restaurant to the slopes.

"One of the things I'm most excited about is we are reopening for the first time since 2007. Bear flats, snack shack, which is a which is a little cabin restaurant that sits at the base of the sublet chair," Andrew Way said. "And we relocated it and put it in kind of more fun, sunnier area. And so once bear flats is open for the season, which should be in, in, in a couple of weeks at the most you can you can ski thunder or sublet or off the top of the tram come into the base of sublet and grab yourself a bear dog."

The bear dog is the same as a hot dog but instead of the typical bun on the outside, it's a toasted baguette.

Other resorts are expected to open soon.

Pebble Creek Ski Resort is expected to open it's mountain this weekend.
