LAS VEGAS (AP) — More than a year will have passed since the incident before a judge hears evidence alleging former Las Vegas Raiders receiver Henry Ruggs III caused a fatal crash while driving drunk at 156 mph in November 2021. The judge has set a  preliminary hearing date for Feb. 1, after Ruggs’ defense attorney asked for time to investigate elements of a police report that he says he just received. A prosecutor acknowledged it is unusual for 15 months to pass between an arrest and a preliminary hearing. The 23-year-old Ruggs is a former first-round NFL draft pick who was released by the Raiders. He’s on house arrest and facing a mandatory two years and possibly more than 50 years in prison.
