Thunderstorm chances and gusty winds prompt Red Flag Warning for Thursday

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI)- Isolated to scattered thunderstorms with little to no rain expected through Friday. Gusty winds will also be felt this week with the overall winds increasing especially Friday through the weekend. Those conditions will create an elevated fire weather danger. Below average temperatures and rain chances are expected over the weekend.

Storms could pop up along the Snake River Plain and Magic Valley. Gusts could over 35 mph with some areas in the south and east potentially seeing gusts peak at 55-60 mph.

Wednesday night will see a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms overnight, mainly after 5 am. The low will be around 53. Winds at 7 to 14 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.

The thunderstorm chances will bump up to 40 percent for Thursday afternoon, mostly before 4pm. Wind gusts could get as high as 22 mph with the daytime high around 83. Similar winds for Thursday night with mostly cloudy skies and an overnight low near 55.

A Red Flag Warning will be in effect from 9 am to midnight on Thursday for parts of Bonneville, Bingham, Caribou, Bear Lake, Franklin, Oneida, Bannock, and Power counties.

The wind will pick up on Friday morning with speeds at 19 to 24 mph and gusts reaching 37 mph. Mostly cloudy skies with a high around 78. Shower and thunderstorm chances pop back up at 30 percent overnight, mostly after 3 am. An overnight low around 48 is expected.

A wet weekend then takes over with an 80 percent chance of rain for Saturday and a 30 percent chance for Sunday with breezy conditions.
