Sunny couple of days before midweek rain arrives

KIFI

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI)- Clear skies and quiet weather are expected tonight, setting up a pleasant and sunny Sunday. Temperatures will drop to a low around 34 degrees overnight before warming to near 62 degrees on Sunday with light winds.

Upper-level ridging is affecting eastern Idaho, bringing stable atmospheric conditions that will keep weather dry through the weekend. Temperatures will reach highs near 62 to 65 degrees through Monday under mostly sunny to sunny skies.

Across the Snake River Plain and Eastern Magic Valley, mild conditions will bring light afternoon winds. Monday will remain sunny with a high near 65 degrees, following a partly cloudy Monday night with a low around 41 degrees.

After that, changes are on the horizon. An upper-level low is moving south along the Pacific Northwest coast and is expected to track off the California coast early next week. This system will gradually pull Pacific moisture inland, bringing isolated light showers to south-central and eastern Idaho as early as Tuesday and Wednesday, with daytime highs remaining around 63 to 65 degrees.

A broader round of precipitation is expected later in the week. A 50% chance of rain and thunderstorms is forecast for Thursday with a high near 63 degrees, followed by an 80% chance of rain Thursday night. Rain is likely on Friday with a 70% chance of precipitation, mostly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures reaching a high near 52 degrees.
