Clearer skies will emerge Monday as storm system departs

KIFI

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI)- Rain across eastern Idaho is expected to taper off around midnight, while high-elevation snow near Sun Valley ends early Sunday evening.

Clearer skies will gradually emerge on Monday, though temperatures will stay cool with daytime highs ranging from the 40s to lower 50s.

As precipitation moves out overnight, leftover moisture and light winds will favor patchy fog development across the Snake Plain, particularly in the Upper Snake region. Stronger winds across the Magic Valley are expected to prevent widespread fog from building there.

Cloud cover will steadily break during the day on Monday as the storm system leaves the area.

Above 7,000 feet near Sun Valley, a Winter Weather Advisory remains active through Sunday evening. Snowfall in those higher elevation areas is expected to diminish as the storm system moves eastward.

Overnight temperatures on Sunday night will drop into the mid-30s, accompanied by northwest winds between six and nine mph and gusts reaching up to 20 mph. On Monday, northwest winds will range from seven to 10 mph with gusts as high as 18 mph under gradually clearing skies.

The rest of the workweek is expected to remain mostly dry across lower-elevation valleys. Daytime temperatures will stay consistent near 48 degrees through Friday, though weak passing weather systems may occasionally bring minor chances of precipitation to higher mountain terrain.
