Patchy fog gives way to weekend warmup

KIFI

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI)- Eastern Idaho will experience brief clearing and patchy fog tonight before an incoming disturbance brings increasing clouds and isolated mountain showers Thursday afternoon.

The National Weather Service reports that while most of the region will remain dry on Thursday, a passing weather system will trigger spotty rain in high-elevation areas. That system will quickly clear out by Thursday night, making way for a high-pressure ridge that will bring prolonged dry conditions and a weekend warming trend.

Tonight will bring mostly clear skies early with a low temperature around 30 degrees. Patchy fog is expected to develop across parts of the region after 8 p.m., accompanied by a light south wind between three and seven mph.

Morning commute conditions on Thursday may see areas of fog before 9 a.m. Clouds will increase throughout the day, bringing a high near 47 degrees. As a weak weather disturbance passes to the north, isolated light showers are expected Thursday afternoon across the Central Mountains and Southeast Highlands. Limited low-level moisture will keep the vast majority of eastern Idaho dry.

Thursday night will stay mostly cloudy before gradually clearing, with a low temperature around 31 degrees and patchy fog developing between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Clearer skies will return Friday, bringing full sunshine and a high near 45 degrees.

Sunny skies and mild conditions will continue through early next week. High temperatures are forecast to remain in the mid-50s through Tuesday, with overnight lows holding in the mid-30s.
