Funeral services planned for Philadelphia police officer killed in airport garage shooting

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Funeral services are planned Tuesday for a Philadelphia police officer killed in an airport parking garage shooting that also wounded another officer earlier this month. A funeral Mass for Officer Richard Mendez is slated for noon Tuesday. Fifty-year-old Mendez and Officer Raul Ortiz saw several people breaking into a car in the parking lot at Philadelphia International Airport on Oct. 12. A confrontation ensued and Mendez was shot four times and later died at a hospital. Ortiz was hit in the arm. One of the suspects was also shot and killed and three men were later arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder.
