City of Idaho Falls Attorney plans to retire

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - Idaho Falls city attorney, Randy Fife, has announced his retirement. His last day will be Thursday, Nov. 30.

According to a news release, Fife first came to the City of Idaho Falls in 2013. He has practiced municipal law for more than 30 years.

Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper has appointed Assistant City Attorney Michael Kirkham to assume Fife’s position on Friday, Dec.1, 2023.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to Mr. Fife, whose dedication to the city has positioned our community for years to come,” Mayor Rebecca Casper said. “Mr. Fife provided our city with a wealth of knowledge in key governance areas, which in turn makes our community better for everyone who lives, works and travels through Idaho Falls.”

Kirkham will oversee the City of Idaho Falls’ Legal Department. He will give legal-related advice, support, and information to the Mayor, City Council and city departments. He will also make sure city officials and staff comply with legal and ethical requirements, draft legal documents, etc.

“Mr. Kirkham has a significant advantage in understanding our state’s legal culture,” Mayor Casper said. “Having Mr. Kirkham serve as the City’s Attorney will allow Idaho Falls to have yet another highly trained and well-respected attorney who knows, understands, and loves his work and his community.”
