BYU-Idaho Radio celebrates its 40-year anniversary

REXBURG, Idaho (KIFI) - BYU-Idaho Radio’s beginnings date back to May 1, 1984, when Ricks College launched a radio station called KRIC. The station broadcast classical music and news programming to eastern Idaho, western Wyoming, and southern Montana on 100.5 FM. Today, KBYI 94.3 FM continues the 40-year-old legacy.

From May 13 to 17, BYU-Idaho Radio broadcast interviews with people who made the station possible. Some of these people include Lamar Barrus, Mark Bailey, and Bryce Rydalch. You can listen to those interviews HERE. The station also held a public open house on May 17.

“We’re excited to remember the origins of BYU-Idaho Radio and the legacy built over the years on KRIC and now KBYI and KBYR,” said radio services supervisor for BYU-Idaho Radio, Brandon Isle. “So many people have helped create what we call BYU-Idaho Radio today and we want to honor them. We can’t wait to have the public tour the radio station and take part in our festivities.”
