Wind Advisory posted for Wednesday; chance of severe thunderstorm wind gusts

For Tuesday night, look for mild overnight low temperatures coming off a hot day. We’ll see a low around 50° for the Snake River Plain, with light winds.

A strong cold front is approaching late Wednesday. Ahead of the front, we’ll see some hot temps, gusty winds and scattered thunderstorms. Sunny through mid-morning, then becoming mostly cloudy, with a high temperature near 90° for the Snake River Plain. Winds will start from the north around 10 to 20 mph. The winds then shift to the southwest around 20 to 30 mph. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory.

WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TO 10 PM MDT WEDNESDAY:

  • WHAT…Southwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph expected.
  • WHERE…Challis/Pahsimeroi Valleys, Lost River Range, Lost River Valley, Wood River Foothills, Beaverhead - Lemhi Highlands, Eastern Magic Valley, Shoshone/Lava Beds, Arco/Mud Lake Desert, Lower Snake River Plain, Raft River Region, Southern Hills/Albion Mountains, and Upper Snake River Plain.
  • WHEN…From noon to 10 PM MDT Wednesday.
  • IMPACTS…Gusty winds could make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Unsecured objects may be blown around. Strong winds and rough waves on area lakes will create hazardous conditions for small craft.

Scattered thunderstorms will continue for Wednesday night with gusty winds. Partly cloudy, with a low temperature around 40°. Breezy, with a southwest winds around 20 to 30 mph decreasing to 15 to 20 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph.

Colder for Thursday with sunshine and more wind. We’ll see high temperatures in the upper 60’s and lower 70’s. Winds from the southwest around 20 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.
