Garret Ostrander Hits for the Cycle as Chukars Search for Momentum

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) — The Idaho Falls Chukars have experienced plenty of ups and downs during the first half of the season, but infielder Garret Ostrander delivered a performance fans won't soon forget.

Over the weekend, Ostrander hit for the cycle, recording a single, double, triple, and home run in the same game. It marked the first cycle of his baseball career and one of the rarest accomplishments in the sport.

Ostrander got off to a fast start with a single and double in his first two at-bats before realizing a cycle might be within reach.

"After I hit the single and double in the first and second, and then when I hit the ball dead center and saw it get over the center fielder's head, I kind of thought, 'Oh, I'm going to get three here.' If I get a triple, all I need is a home run," Ostrander said.

With only the home run remaining, Ostrander stepped to the plate knowing exactly what was on the line. After a conversation with his third base coach, he went to the batter's box looking for one pitch he could drive.

"I took just the biggest hack I could take because I knew what was at stake, and it somehow ended up working out," he said.

The home run completed the cycle and capped off a memorable day at the plate.

While the individual milestone was special, Ostrander believes it could also represent something bigger for the Chukars. Despite sitting near the bottom of the standings, the team remains confident it can turn its season around.

The Chukars have shown flashes of offensive firepower throughout the year, but consistency has been difficult to find as a roster filled with new faces continues to develop chemistry.

"I'm very confident. We've done a really good job offensively, and once we put it together as a team, the wins will come," Ostrander said.

As the season continues, the Chukars hope Ostrander's cycle is more than just a personal achievement. They hope it serves as a sign that better days are ahead for a team still searching for its stride.
