Beat the heat: Pocatello opening cooling stations starting Friday

POCATELLO, Idaho (KIFI) — With temperatures expected to climb into the upper 90s later this week, the City of Pocatello is opening its doors to help people beat the heat.

Beginning Friday, July 10th, the City will open several designated cooling shelters to the public. These stations will remain available for 45 days, at which point city officials will reevaluate the weather conditions to determine if the shelters are still necessary.

The following locations will be available as cooling stations:

  • Pocatello City Hall Lobby
    • Hours:
      • Monday – Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
      • Saturday & Sunday: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The City will have bottled water available and plug-ins for charging portable devices.

  • Marshall Public Library
    • Hours:
    • Monday – Thursday: 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
    • Friday & Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
    • Sunday: Closed
  • Pocatello Animal Services
    • Hours: Operating during standard business hours
      • Monday – Friday: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
      • Saturday: 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
      • Sunday: Closed
