Gate City Grays beat Logan Royals 16-6 to force a deciding game 3

The Gate City Grays defeated the Logan Royals 16-6 Friday night to stave off elimination in their playoff series. The victory was secured by an eight-run scoring surge early in the game.

An eight-run bottom of the second inning propelled the Grays to a commanding lead. The offensive outburst allowed Gate City to force a decisive third game in the series.

Tyler Vance provided the highlights during the second-inning rally with a grand slam. The home run scored Brayden Peiper, Chris Louie and Gio Galvan to help break the game open for Gate City. Tegan Mortensen added to the lead in that same inning with a three-run home run, bringing the score to 9-1.

Vance finished the night as the standout in the box score. He went 3-for-5 with 5 RBI, a double and a home run.

The Grays ended the contest in the bottom of the sixth inning with a walk-off single. Brody Burch hit a line drive to left field to drive in Vance and secure the 10-run margin of victory.

Both teams travel to Logan, Utah, for a winner-take-all Game 3 Saturday night. The winner of that matchup will advance to the Northern Utah League Championship.
