BEAR LAKE COUNTY, Idaho (KIFI) — A 71-year-old Ovid man died after an ATV crash Thursday morning west of Ovid, according to Idaho State Police.

The crash occurred at about 11:12 a.m. Aug. 27 on North Road west of Johnson Road.

Idaho State Police said the man was riding a 2014 Polaris Sportsman eastbound on North Road when he abruptly swerved to avoid a westbound 2021 GMC Savana driven by a 22-year-old man from Nibley, Utah.

According to ISP, the ATV rider lost control after swerving. The Polaris traveled off the south side of the roadway, struck a concrete barrier and overturned.

The Ovid man was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police said the ATV rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the GMC was wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation by Idaho State Police.
