Diggers rally from deficit to beat Kimberly 14-7 for fourth consecutive win

SUGAR CITY, Idaho (KIFI) – Sugar-Salem earned its fourth consecutive victory with a 14-7 win over Kimberly. After falling behind early, the Diggers rallied to tie the game before halftime, then took a 1 touchdown lead in the second half, and held off Bulldogs to secure the seven-point win.

Sugar-Salem opened the game on offense as Frank Fillmore completed a quick pass to Walter Fillmore, who spun through a tackle to pick up a first down before the opening drive stalled.

The game remained scoreless late into the second quarter before Kimberly put together a scoring drive. Quarterback Gunner Beckstead hit Braxton Dille on a slant to bring the Bulldogs to the 30-yard line for a first down. On a fourth down later in the same drive, Beckstead felt pressure in the pocket but found McKay Hollist for a touchdown, giving Kimberly an early 7-0 lead.

Sugar-Salem responded late in the first half while facing a fourth-and-11 situation. Frank Fillmore threw a high pass that Trevon Butikofer tipped to himself and secured, fighting off a couple of Kimberly defenders to gain the first down. In the closing seconds of the half, Fillmore connected with Boston Nead for a Digger touchdown to tie the score 7-7 at halftime.

Sugar-Salem pulled ahead in the second half to complete the 14-7 victory over Kimberly. The Diggers will look to make it 5 in a row when they take on Preston next week on the 25th at 7 PM.
