Tracking chilly sunshine to start Monday and a mainly dry week ahead
We’re starting Monday morning with that unmistakable early-fall chill across Eastern Idaho and western Wyoming. Temperatures will be in the 30s and 40s around sunrise, so if you’re heading out early, grabbing the jacket or hoodie is definitely the move.
The payoff comes quickly, though. With bright sunshine taking over, temperatures climb steadily through the morning and afternoon, eventually reaching the low 70s for most of the valley.
MONDAY: Cool Start, Beautiful Finish
6 AM: Temperatures mainly in the 30s and 40s. A jacket or sweatshirt will feel pretty good heading to work or school.
8 AM: Sunshine gets the day started, with temperatures climbing through the 40s.
10 AM: We're into the 50s and 60s, and that early-morning chill starts disappearing.
NOON: Near the upper 60s with plenty of sunshine. A great setup for lunch outside or getting some fresh air.
2 PM: Around 70 degrees, with mostly sunny skies.
4 PM: High temperatures peak in the low 70s. This is the sweet spot for outdoor projects, a walk, golf, errands or simply enjoying the afternoon.
6 PM: Temperatures begin sliding back through the 60s, but skies remain clear.
8 PM: We're dropping through the 50s under a mostly clear sky. Great evening weather for football practice, an outdoor dinner or sitting around the fire pit.
Overnight: Clear and calm with temperatures settling back into the 40s.
TUESDAY: A Little Warmer
Tuesday starts much like Monday, but we'll turn the thermostat up a few degrees.
Look for sunshine from morning through afternoon with temperatures climbing out of the 40s early and into the 60s by late morning. By afternoon, we'll reach the low to mid 70s, with some spots running a little warmer.
Morning: Cool but comfortable once the sun gets up.
Late morning: Rapid warming through the 50s and 60s.
Afternoon: Sunshine and temperatures in the low to mid 70s — another good day for outdoor plans.
Then things change Tuesday night.
A 40% chance of showers develops into the evening and overnight hours. That means not everyone gets wet, but if you have outdoor plans Tuesday night, it would be smart to keep an eye on the sky and have a backup plan.
WEDNESDAY: Showers Move Out, Sunshine Moves Back In
The good news is that Tuesday night's showers don't look like they're going to put a major dent in Wednesday.
We'll get back to sunshine for much of Wednesday, with temperatures climbing to around 74 degrees.
That puts us right back into comfortable weather for getting outside — whether you're working around the house, walking the dog, heading to the golf course or taking advantage of one of those last few really nice September afternoons.
The morning will be cooler, but once the sun gets up, temperatures will climb quickly.
THURSDAY: Summer Makes A Brief Return
By Thursday, we're warming even more.
Temperatures push toward the upper 70s and near 80 degrees, giving us a noticeable late-September warm-up.
So the weather story this week is pretty simple:
Cool mornings → sunny afternoons → warmer each day → brief shower chance Tuesday night → sunshine returns Wednesday → near 80 Thursday.
THE BOTTOM LINE
If you're looking for the best stretch of weather for outdoor plans, Monday through Thursday is looking pretty favorable, with the one wrinkle being that Tuesday evening shower chance.
Morning commuters will want the jacket or hoodie early this week, but don't leave it on the back of the chair all day — once the sun comes up, you'll be peeling those layers off pretty quickly.
And with sunshine dominating much of the week, those afternoon hours are going to be the time to get outside and enjoy it.
