Clouds will increase, temperatures will be a little cooler, and there will be opportunities for showers and a few thunderstorms—especially later in the day and this evening. The National Weather Service is calling for about a 40% chance of precipitation today, with temperatures near 70 in Idaho Falls.

The good news: this is a short-lived interruption. Sunshine returns Wednesday, temperatures climb through the rest of the week, and we stay pleasantly warm heading into Friday.

🌥️ TODAY: Clouds, a few showers and a high near 70

Plan on a mostly cloudy Tuesday, with temperatures starting out in the 40s and gradually climbing through the 50s and 60s.

There is about a 30–40% chance of showers today, so don't be surprised if you encounter a passing shower while you're out and about. The best chance comes during the afternoon as the atmosphere becomes more active.

Winds will generally be out of the southwest at 5–10 mph, so it won't be a particularly windy day.

For outdoor plans, think layers and a light jacket or rain shell. Most of the day may be dry, but you'll want something handy if a shower moves through.

⛈️ TONIGHT: Keep an eye on the sky

The shower and thunderstorm threat doesn't completely disappear with sunset.

There is about a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight, with mostly cloudy skies and temperatures falling toward 41–45° overnight.

If you're heading to an evening football game, outdoor activity or simply have plans around town, have a backup plan for a passing shower or storm, particularly during the evening.

After midnight, things should settle down.

☀️ WEDNESDAY: Sunshine returns

And then—just like that—the weather turns around.

Sunshine returns Wednesday, with temperatures climbing back into the lower 70s. The morning starts chilly, with temperatures in the 40s, but sunshine will quickly make it feel much more comfortable.

Wednesday night drops back into the 40s, giving us another cool September night.

The latest NWS forecast has Idaho Falls near 72° Wednesday with mostly sunny skies.

🌡️ THURSDAY & FRIDAY: Warm it back up

The warming trend continues toward the end of the week.

By Thursday, temperatures climb into the upper 70s, with plenty of sunshine. Friday stays warm, with readings pushing toward the upper 70s to around 80° in many spots.

That makes Thursday and Friday look like the sweet spot for late-week outdoor plans.

• 🎣 Fishing
• 🥾 Hiking
• 🚗 Road trips
• 🏈 Friday night football
• 🔥 Evening around the fire
• 🌅 Enjoying one of those increasingly valuable September sunsets

The NWS Southeast Idaho forecast similarly shows temperatures climbing into the upper 70s and around 80° late this week.

🍂 SATURDAY: A cooler, comfortable reset

Saturday brings a noticeable—but not dramatic—cooldown.

We'll still have plenty of sunshine, but temperatures drop back toward 71°, with some breezes developing.

That's actually a pretty comfortable setup for outdoor activities: sunny, cooler and noticeably less summer-like.

Morning temperatures will be back in the 40s, so you'll want a jacket early, but by afternoon it'll be comfortable for getting outside.

🏔️ SUNDAY: Warmer with a mountain shower chance

Sunday starts another warming trend.

We'll see warmer temperatures, some breezes and generally favorable conditions across the valleys. The main weather wrinkle will be a slight chance of showers in the mountains.

For valley plans, most of the day should remain workable, while those heading into the higher elevations should keep an eye on the sky.
