Tracking clearing conditions and warmer temps
We’re starting the morning on the cool side with temperatures in the 40s and a few lingering clouds and showers, especially early. Those showers will gradually fade as we go through the morning, and we’ll see skies brighten from west to east.
By 9 AM: We’ll be climbing through the 50s with clouds breaking up.
Late morning: Temperatures reach the 60s, and you’ll notice more sunshine taking over.
Around lunchtime: We’re near the upper 60s with much of the shower activity gone.
This afternoon: Look for a mix of sunshine and a few passing clouds, with temperatures topping out around 71°. Winds stay generally light, so it should be a pretty comfortable afternoon for getting outside, running errands or taking advantage of the last few warmer days of September.
And there are plenty of reasons to be out tonight. In Idaho Falls, the Fire Department’s annual Fire Prevention Block Party runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at 343 E Street, and the weather should cooperate nicely for families.
If you're headed to the Mountain America Center, Theory of a Deadman and Sevendust are on stage tonight. The concert starts at 7, with comfortable conditions early this evening before temperatures fall away.
Tonight: Skies clear out, winds remain light and temperatures fall through the 50s into the lower 40s overnight. If you're staying out late, you'll definitely want a jacket.
THURSDAY
Thursday looks like the pick of the week if you're looking for sunshine.
We start the morning around 40°, but sunshine gets to work quickly.
8 AM: Mid-40s
10 AM: Around 50°
Noon: Near 60°
2 PM: Upper 60s
4 PM: Mid-70s
We'll top out around 77° under mostly sunny skies.
That means another excellent day for outdoor projects, lunch outside, a walk along the Greenbelt or getting those last few things done around the yard before the weather turns cooler this weekend.
Thursday night stays quiet with partly cloudy skies and temperatures dropping into the lower 40s.
FRIDAY — ONE MORE WARM PUSH
Friday is when we squeeze in one last taste of summer.
We'll start in the upper 40s, warm through the 60s by late morning and push toward 80° in the afternoon.
But Friday isn't just about the temperature — you'll notice the wind picking up, particularly during the afternoon, as the next cold front approaches.
So if you've got outdoor plans, Friday morning and early afternoon offer the more comfortable window. By later in the day, it'll feel noticeably breezier.
It's also a good reminder that we're getting deeper into fall: 80° Friday, then a significant cool-down for Saturday.
SATURDAY — THE RESET
The front moves through and changes the feel of the weekend.
Saturday starts breezy, especially during the morning, with a mix of clouds and sunshine. Temperatures will be considerably cooler than Friday, topping out in the upper 60s.
For outdoor plans, it's still very manageable — just dress in layers and be prepared for that breeze, particularly early in the day.
And with sunshine returning at times, Saturday could still be a good day for football, fall activities, yard work or getting out on the trails — just without Friday's summer-like warmth.
BOTTOM LINE:
Enjoy today through Friday. We gradually clear things out today, warm into the upper 70s Thursday and make one last run at 80° Friday before that front brings a noticeable change in the wind and temperatures Saturday.
