Tracking high pressure with a warming week with sunshine

We’re settling into a really nice stretch of fall weather across Eastern Idaho, and today is going to be one of those days where you’ll want to take advantage of it.

We’ll start out cool this morning, but plenty of sunshine will help temperatures climb quickly through the day. Look for a bright, mostly sunny afternoon with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s. Winds will stay relatively light out of the south and southwest around 5 to 10 miles an hour, so it won’t be a particularly windy day either.

That makes today a pretty good day to get outside — whether you’re getting some yard work finished up, taking the dog for a walk, getting out for a bike ride, or just taking advantage of the sunshine before the colder side of fall really settles in.

And if your lawn is looking a little rough after summer, this is the kind of weather you can actually work with. You can get the leaves and debris cleaned up, knock out some last-minute trimming and take care of those outdoor chores without battling heat, wind or rain.

Tonight stays quiet and clear. Temperatures will drop back toward 40 degrees, so it will definitely feel like fall once the sun goes down. You’ll want the jacket for that evening walk or if you're headed out for dinner or an activity.

Wednesday keeps the good weather going. We’ll have another sunny, seasonal day with highs around 72 degrees. It’ll be comfortable enough for outdoor plans during the afternoon, while those cool mornings and evenings remind us that October is just about here.

Then we start warming things up again.

Thursday and Friday push into the 70s, with temperatures climbing into the mid and upper 70s. That’s a few degrees warmer than what we normally expect this time of year, so if you've been putting off those outdoor projects, this is your window.

And it looks like the mild weather hangs around through the weekend. We could be talking about the mid to upper 70s again, with Sunday near 77 or 78 degrees depending on exactly where you are across the region.

The big story is that it stays high and dry. We’re not seeing much of a shower threat in this stretch, so there should be plenty of opportunities to get outside and enjoy it.

So as we head toward October, you've got a pretty good stretch of weather to work with: cool mornings, warm afternoons, sunshine, and relatively light winds.

Get the yard cleaned up. Get those outdoor chores finished. Take the kids or the dog outside. Go for a drive through the mountains and check out the changing colors. Or just find a patio while you still can.

Because eventually October is going to remind us that winter is waiting — but for now, Eastern Idaho is giving us some pretty nice weather to enjoy.
