Tracking more warm temps with a drastic change including cold showers and mountain snow chances

We’re holding onto this ridge of high pressure for a few more days, and that means warm, dry and very comfortable weather continues across Eastern Idaho. Afternoon temperatures will stay in the mid to upper 70s through the next several days, with plenty of sunshine and only occasional breezy conditions.

That makes this a great stretch to take advantage of the outdoors — whether you’re getting in one more round of golf, heading out for a fall hike, taking the motorcycle for a ride, working in the yard or simply enjoying the sunshine before the weather takes a turn.

But there is a noticeable change coming.

By Saturday, temperatures slide back toward 70 degrees, and we’ll start watching a storm system take shape across the Rockies. The mountains are likely to feel the change first, with increasing clouds, stronger winds and the potential for rain and unsettled weather across the higher elevations.

And yes — we’re getting close to that time of year when the Rockies start talking snow again. The incoming pattern has the potential to produce the first accumulating snow of the season for some of the higher mountain elevations, while lower elevations will be dealing more with rain and cooler temperatures.

For Eastern Idaho, the bigger story is the temperature drop.

After several days of summer-like warmth, we’ll head into a much more October-like pattern, with afternoon temperatures falling into the 40s and 50s next week. Those overnight temperatures will be even more noticeable, with 30s showing up for morning lows.

So enjoy the warmth while it lasts. The patio furniture, short sleeves and late-evening outdoor plans have a few more days — but fall is finally waiting in the wings.

Stay with Local News 8. We’ll continue tracking the weekend storm setup, mountain snow potential and exactly how quickly that colder air moves into Eastern Idaho.
