Jackson drivers face temporary road closures for new traffic lights

WYDOT

JACKSON, Wyo. (KIFI) — Drivers in downtown Jackson will encounter temporary road closures on Monday, October 26 as Wyoming Department of Transportation crews install new traffic light poles.

The signal replacement is part of a broader infrastructure project designed to improve Broadway Avenue.

WYDOT officials said that crews will need roughly 4 hours to set all four signal poles at the intersection of Broadway and Millward.

South Millward Street will close from Broadway Avenue to Pearl Street from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by the closure of North Millward Street from Broadway Avenue to Deloney Avenue from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., with traffic detoured around the adjacent block.

Crews will shift to lifting and setting mast arms across traffic lanes overnight, beginning at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29. WYDOT reported that traffic will be detoured around the next block and no vehicles will be allowed under the signal arms until they are fully secured and set.

The signal replacement is designed to improve downtown roads before the winter season. Targeted accomplishments include drainpipe installation, traffic signal replacement, concrete slab repairs and Americans with Disabilities Act pedestrian sidewalk upgrades. Crews are installing new drain inlets, sidewalk and ramp replacements on Broadway Avenue at Cache Street, Glenwood Street and Millward Street, alongside the new traffic signal at Millward Street and Broadway Avenue.

Heavy vehicles and commercial traffic are being detoured around the project area via North Jackson Street, while parking is restricted on Broadway Avenue and Cache Street. Standard sidewalk access is restricted, but alternative pedestrian pathways are safely routed through the construction area.

Construction will progress through late November before pausing for the season, with final project phases scheduled to resume in the spring.
