Lockdown cleared at Cloverdale Elementary

KIFI

AMMON, Idaho (KIFI) – Students at Cloverdale Elementary were placed on a brief lockdown Wednesday morning.

Bonneville County Sheriff's deputies investigated reports of potential gunshots in the vicinity of the school.

However, their investigation found that a nearby business had set off fireworks to scare birds away at a warehouse.

The lockdown started at 8:15 a.m. and was lifted 45 minutes later, once Sheriff's deputies determined there was no threat to the school.

In a news release, Bonneville County Sheriff's Office advised parents that in a lockdown, all doors and classrooms are secured, and no one is allowed to move in or out of the building until the lockdown is cleared.

Parents are recommended to stay away from the area and await official messaging from the school about what is going on.

In these situations, "the primary focus for emergency personnel and school officials is the problem at hand and making the area safe, followed by messaging and information to parents and the public," the release stated. "Because access to many of our school campuses is limited and narrow, any help from the public and parents to stay clear of the area, avoid speculation, rumors and misinformation on social media, and wait for official messaging is a tremendous help in keeping this process as efficient as possible."

For additional information on school emergency procedures, visit the Idaho Office of School Safety and Security website. Parents are also encouraged to talk with their local school administrators and their BCSO School Resource Officer about these procedure, how they are implemented and how to respond to a threat or emergency at school.
