Erickson and DeVries face off over immigration

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - As the midterm election gets closer, Republican Marco Erickson and Democrat Todd DeVries are running for State Legislature, District 33, Seat B. Both shared their positions on immigration policy in our nation.

Republican Marco Erickson said he supports federal law and believes Idaho should follow the same approach.

"Idaho needs to enforce the law, and we're going to continue to do that," Erickson said. "What we've seen this last year, there is a lot of controversy around I.C.E., but they're enforcing the law. That's their job. We have to support that. If you're here illegally, that's a problem."

On the other side, Democrat Todd DeVries says Idaho has been too quick to comply with federal immigration policies.

"Start looking at immigration instead of as a criminal issue, as a social issue. If people are here, if they're contributing, they're Americans – however they got here. We need some kind of immigration reform that recognizes that," said DeVries.

The two candidates agree there needs to be reform when it comes to this issue. For the full, unedited interviews with both candidates, see below.
