I-15 lanes reopen near Blackfoot after distracted driving rollover

MGN

BLACKFOOT, Idaho (KIFI) — Southbound lanes on Interstate 15 near Blackfoot, Idaho, have reopened after a semi-truck rollover caused by a distracted driver temporarily blocked traffic on Friday afternoon, according to Idaho State Police.

Just before 3:15 p.m., a 35-year-old North Carolina man driving southbound near milepost 95 lost control of his 2024 Volvo semi-truck pulling a refrigerated trailer. ISP investigators determined the driver was using a mobile device when the vehicle drifted onto the right shoulder.

While attempting to steer back onto the roadway, the semi-truck tipped onto its side and came to rest partially blocking the right lane.

Despite not wearing a seatbelt, the driver escaped the crash without injury.

Emergency responders and tow crews worked into the evening to clear the overturned commercial vehicle and manage traffic through the area. According to Idaho 511, all lanes have since been cleared and reopened to traffic.

The crash remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
