WEST YELLOWSTONE, Mt. (KIFI-KIDK)-The winter tourist season officially opened at Yellowstone National Park Sunday.

As if on cue, a 3.5 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 5:32 a.m. MT.  The epicenter was about 52 miles northeast of Rexburg or about 15 miles west-southwest of Old Faithful.  There were no reports of significant damage.

Interior roads in the park are now open to travel with commercially-guided snowmobiles and snow coaches.  Non-commercial guided snowmobile trips are available with proper permits.

The east entrance road over Sylvan Pass will open to oversnow travel on December 22.

The road from the north entrance at Gardiner, Montana through Mammoth Hot Springs to Cooke City, Montana will be plowed and open to vehicle traffic year-round.
