Police Officer’s Son Sentenced In Burglaries

An Idaho Falls police officer’s son charged in a series of knifepoint burglaries was sentenced to one year in prison, but with some stipulations.

Andrew Knoelk is developmentally disabled and defense attorney Laurie Gaffney argued Monday for probation and release to an intensely monitored halfway house.

Ultimately, Judge Dane Watkins Jr. decided to impose a one- to 12-year sentence, but said he would retain jurisdiction over the case.

Watkins said that if the defense was able to secure a definite rehabilitation program, he would consider changing Knoelk’s sentence to probation.
